HEMS Industry Risk Profile

The Flight Safety Foundation recently released a comprehensive analysis of the risks facing the Helicopter Emergency medical services (HEMS) industry.  The Industry Risk Profile (IRP), developed by Aerosafe Risk Management, also provides a roadmap outlining proactive steps that the industry and regulators can follow in order to mitigate these risks.  Click the link above to access a PDF of the IRP.  Or you may click here to order a hard copy of the document.

Scholarship Programs

FARE Launches the Children's Scholarship Fund
Children who have lost a parent in an air medical accident may now be eligible for financial assistance through a scholarship fund developed by FARE.  Beginning this year, the FARE Children’s Scholarship Fund will award two scholarships, of $2,500 each, to deserving high school seniors entering a college, university or vocational-technical school.

FARE Children’s Scholarship Fund applicants will be evaluated according to academic achievement, financial need and community service. To be eligible, applicants must be a graduating high school senior accepted into an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. Applicants must also have at least a C grade point average (GPA) and be a legal U.S. resident.

FARE's MTLI Scholarship
solely funded by Metro Aviation, Inc.

Congratulations to Michael Frakes, RN, EMT-P as the MTLI Scholarship award winner for 2009!

Frakes is the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Director of Education and Performance at Boston MedFlight.  The review committee was impressed by his extensive experience in the critical care transport community, dedication to multiple professional organizations and very remarkable list of publications.  In his application Frakes clearly defined career goals that when combined with earning a CMTE (Certified Medical Transport Executive) will have a direct positive impact on the critical care transport community.

The Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) enhances leadership and management of medical transportation through formal education programs emphasizing management theory and its direct practical application.  FARE will award the competitive 2-year scholarship annually over the next ten years to individuals who excel in the critical care transport community.  Metro Aviation, Inc. is the sole funder for the MTLI Scholarship program. The 2010 application will open in the fall of 2009.
